The great thing about Iron Maiden's album covers is that they say: HEAVY METAL, BY GOD!
You look at Eddie on there and you know what you're getting.

Everybody seems to have neglected the greatest Maiden cover of them all... "Somewere in Time"! I could stare at that one for hours (and probably have
). Also, it's neat to try and find all the references to Maiden's songs.
Other cool album covers include...
Beatles - "Sgt. Pepper" (well DUH!) and "Yesterday and Today" (baby butcher version)
Black Sabbath - "Black Sabbath"
The Who - "Sell Out" and "Who's Next"
Sonic Youth - "Goo" and "Bad Moon Rising"
The Clash - "Give 'em Enough Rope" and "London Calling"
Bob Dylan - "Bringing it all Back Home"
Big Black - "Songs about F-cking"
Frank Zappa - "Weasels Ripped My Flesh" and "Hot Rats"
Jimi Hendrix - "Axis: Bold as Love"
Rolling Stones - "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby..." single
Misfits - "Walk Among Us"
Big Star - "Third/Sister Lovers"

Ahhh,,,yes.
I remember doing this drawing in art class when it came out.
We had a project that you take a image and enlarge it meaning make a grid on the image then make it 3 times the size by making a bigger grid and draw in the sections.
I got a B on it cuz I didnt get it done in time to paint it

The Smashing Pumpkins Greatest Hits (the band actually took this picture in 1988 for when the would breakup in the future)
Much better than the US release, kinda like the album itself.
And the original banned Appetite For Destruction cover.

I know I got razzed for this before, but I still maintain that this is one of the most effective album covers of recent years. It just nails the mood and the concept of the album so perfectly.

It's the Afghan Whigs' "Gentlemen" CD cover, BTW.

I've always loved the album cover for the Beach Boys' never-released "Smile". I've got a few of these (sans actual record) and got one framed and hanging on my wall.

The first one that popped into my head is New Order's Republic. I like the way that a whole bunch of pictures blend into each other, starting with the cover. Here's the cover:

And then it goes on here and here. (These images are probably a bit too big to post here)
The picture of the cowboys at sunset is probably my favorite.
Interestingly enough, the site that I took the pictures from gives this little tidbit about the cover:
According to an interview around May 1993 in Select Magzine, Stephen and Gillian said that they were upset that Peter Saville took the design from The Other Two's album, The Other Two And You. They said that typefaces, styles and the inner pictures of Republic's sleeve was originally planned for their album, not New Order's.
